As reported in previous posts, the Helmholtz Centre Dresden Rossendorf (HZDR) is installing an experimental facility at its premises to prove the CEEGS cycle at the laboratory scale.
At the outset of 2024, the first post-commissioning operations were conducted at the facility.
Following the filling of the system with CO2, the compressor raised the system pressure to 65 bar. During the subsequent expansion, temperatures below -10°C were reached, which was even visible on the tube outside. The heat exchanger was effectively able to heat and cool the CO2 using both hot and cold water.
Further experiments are planned to generate more data.
